At Fine Print, we want to print your work to the very highest standard. We have some of the most state-of-the-art equipment in the business, and if you decide to provide your own artwork, you can help us achieve the best possible results by following a few simple guidelines.
If you have any queries, or need any help during the origination of your artwork, please feel free to contact us.

File Type

We can print from most common file types, as well as many of the more unusual formats.

The following are particularly popular with our customers:
• .EPS
• .PDF (Adobe Portable Document Format)
• .PSD (Adobe Photoshop)
• .AI (Adobe Illustrator)
• .INDD (Adobe InDesign)
• .QXD (Quark Xpress)

Quality printing requires high-resolution artwork. Whilst websites and other screen images tend to have a resolution of 72 dpi (dots per inch), work destined for print needs be supplied at a minimum resolution of 300dpi at its finished size.

Colour Space

Lithographic printing requires colour artwork that is supplied in a CMYK (Cyan Magenta Yellow blacK) colour space. However, many popular file formats - such as digital camera generated JPG’s - are created with in an RGB colour space. We will happily convert RGB to CMYK for you, but you will need to be aware that more colours can be displayed on an RGB monitor than can be printed onto paper so during the conversion some colours will print less vibrant than originally viewed on screen. For absolute assurance that the colours you have chosen are the colours we print, the best option is to provide us with CMYK artwork. Many popular software packages, such as Adobe Photoshop, CorelDraw and Microsoft Publisher 2003 enable you to convert RGB files to CMYK, allowing you to make any necessary colour adjustments before your artwork is printed.

Fonts & Images

We are happy to accept artwork that has been created in Adobe InDesign or QuarkXpress. However, we will need all the fonts and images used to create your final design. InDesign has a special ‘Preflight’ option, which will bundle necessary files together and alert you if any are missing.

The 'Ideal' Way

At Fine Print we use a fully automated pdf workflow, outlines, in detail, the correct way of supplying print ready pdf files from InDesign and QuarkXpress.
